What we do

The Commonwealth Grants Commission has been serving the people of Australia for 90 years.   

Since 1933, we have been advising the Australian Government on how federal funding should be distributed to the states and territories to ensure equitable access to services.

2025 Methodology Review

2025 Methodology Review

  • In response to terms of reference from the Commonwealth Treasurer, the Commonwealth Grants Commission has commenced a review of the methodology used to calculate the relativities for distributing the pool of GST among the states and territories, to apply from 2025-26.

The Draft Report outlines the Commission's draft position on its assessment methodology and provides a further basis for consultation with states and territories.
